Reports To: IT Cybersecurity Manager

Direct Reports: No Functional Unit: IT

FLSA Status: Exempt Position Type: Full-Time

THE CHALLENGE

The Firewall Analyst II is an integral member of the Cybersecurity team, providing industry expertise in the implementation, configuration, management, and support of Check Point firewalls. This position is a key contributor in firewall lifecycle operations and support as well as continuous improvement of firewall policies and rules in all Onward Energy IT/OT environments.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Operations

  • Firewall lifecycle
    • Firewall inventory documentation
    • Firewall lifecycle assessment
    • Firewall lifecycle patching and updates
    • Firewall deprecation and replacement
  • Firewall operations
    • Firewall policy configuration
    • Configuration change control and documentation

Support

  • Firewall support
    • Firewall emergency and out-of-band patching
    • Firewall-related support tickets

Planning

  • Case Review
    • Review and prioritize firewall cases
    • Coordinate team case management

Project

  • M&A Onboarding projects
    • Firewall deployments
    • Access control policy design and initial configuration
  • Networking changes

Training

  • Firewalls
  • Check Point products
  • Networking

THE PROFILE TO SUCCEED

  • 3-5 years of IT experience with 1-2 years in a firewall administrator/ network engineer type role, preferably with Check Point firewalls.
  • Demonstrable experience:
    • Firewall implementation and configuration (Check Point, Cisco, Palo Alto, etc.)
    • Firewall security patch and policy implementation
    • Analysis of network traffic to detect threats
    • Investigation of security incidents
    • Development of security standards, best practices, and compliance with regulatory requirements
    • Firewall rule Identification, prioritization, and implementation
  • Exposure to network security technologies:
    • Network IDS/IPS solutions
    • Network Security Monitoring (NSM)
    • Switch/router ACLs
    • Network access control solutions
    • IPSec and TLS based VPNs
    • SIEM logging and alerting

The position functions in a smoke and vape free professional office environment. The role routinely utilizes standard office equipment such as laptop computer, phone, and scanner/photocopier.
